Subscription & Auto-Renewal Terms
Last updated: November 3, 2026
These Subscription & Auto-Renewal Terms govern subscriptions and recurring payment plans on Velvet, operated by HERNING TYAS. Please read them carefully before subscribing.
1. Automatic Renewal Terms
Velvet offers recurring subscriptions that unlock every short story on Velvet for as long as the subscription is active. Long novels are not included in any subscription: their chapters are unlocked with Coins.
- Daily: $3.98 USD billed automatically every day until cancelled.
- Weekly: $12.98 USD for the first week, then $25.98 USD billed automatically every week until cancelled.
- Monthly: $51.98 USD billed automatically every month until cancelled.
- Yearly: $259.98 USD billed automatically every year until cancelled.
- Continuous Service: Your subscription will automatically renew at the conclusion of each billing period unless you cancel it before your scheduled renewal date.
2. Checkout Transparency & Affirmative Consent
Before completing your subscription purchase, Velvet clearly presents the plan name, recurring price, billing cycle, auto-renewal rules, and cancellation instructions on the checkout screen.
You must provide affirmative consent (such as clicking "Subscribe" or confirming via your payment provider) agreeing to automatic recurring charges. Time-stamped records of your order and consent are securely preserved.
3. Pre-Billing Renewal Notices
Where required by applicable consumer protection laws, Velvet or your payment provider will deliver an advance pre-billing notification before recurring charges take place, summarizing the upcoming charge and how to cancel.
4. Prominent Cancellation Without Dark Patterns
You have the right to cancel your subscription at any time without fees, penalties, or unnecessary hurdles.
- In-App Cancellation: You can manage and cancel your active subscription directly inside the Velvet reader by navigating to Profile > Subscription.
- Payment Provider Management: If you subscribed via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal, you may also cancel directly within your Apple Subscriptions, Google Play Subscriptions, or PayPal Automatic Payments settings.
- Effective Time of Cancellation: Cancellation stops future automatic recurring payments. You will continue to have full subscription access until the end of your current paid billing period.
5. Advance Notice of Price Adjustments
Velvet reserves the right to modify subscription pricing. If we change subscription fees, we will provide you with at least thirty (30) days advance notice via email or prominent in-app notification prior to the new price taking effect.
If you do not agree to the adjusted price, you may cancel your subscription before the effective date. If you do not cancel, your subscription will renew at the new rate.
6. Billing Failures & Grace Period
If an automatic renewal payment fails due to card expiration, insufficient funds, or banking restrictions, Velvet and our payment processors will attempt to re-bill your payment method over a reasonable grace period.
During this period, subscription benefits may be temporarily suspended. If payment cannot be successfully completed, your subscription will be terminated.
7. Free Trials & Introductory Conversions
From time to time, Velvet may offer promotional free trials or discounted introductory periods for subscription plans. The exact terms and trial duration will be clearly disclosed at checkout.
Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the promotional period concludes, the subscription will automatically convert into a standard recurring paid subscription at the regular rate listed in Section 1 (for example, the Weekly plan renews at $25.98 per week after the discounted first week).
8. No Refunds for Billed Cycles & Statutory Rights
All subscription fees for past or current billing periods are non-refundable. Velvet does not issue partial or prorated refunds for cancellations made mid-cycle.
Statutory Rights: Nothing in these terms limits or excludes non-waivable statutory consumer rights, including the 14-day statutory right of withdrawal available to consumers in the European Union and United Kingdom where the digital service has not yet commenced or as mandated by law.
